Bullfrog

This is an American bullfrog froglet. At this stage they are usually about 2-3 years of age. Bullfrogs take a long time to develop from eggs. Why? Because if they develop as quickly as other frogs they would completely drown out the competition.

Weighing in at about 4 lbs and 7 inches from snout to vent this frog places itself among the largest. These frogs are primarily nocturnal but are often seen during the day. They feed  on just about anything that would fit in its mouth. This includes turtles, small birds, crayfish, and even other frogs.

Bullfrogs are’nt around all the time though. They hibernate, but where? Frogs tend to hibernate at the bottom of ponds or bodies of water with muddy bottoms in the water. But how? They use their skin to suck oxygen from the water. They also slow their metabolism. Frogs are way more complex than I thought. Its pretty amazing.
